Just Use Water
I own a bed and breakfast in Lancaster County, PA, USA. I do a lot of cleaning! Mussers’ B and B is housed in what used to be New Providence’s general store for 170+ years. There are 45 windows, 11 outside doors, 10 stairways, 4 bathrooms, 3 kitchens, 2 attics, 2 basements. And there is just “1” of me. The sole cleaning woman.
For a long while I didn’t want to go into my living room and hoped the guests that ventured that far didn’t look in the corners of the 10 foot ceilings and especially didn’t walk closely to the Venetian blinds that had a mile of dust on every slat. Every time I started to clean the blinds with my store bought micro-fiber cloths it was disheartening because it was so time consuming and ineffective. I tried sweeping them with my Miele sweeper which I dearly love but the suction was too much and the process unwieldy. I knew someday I’d have to tackle the blinds but I never had a whole someday or more likely a whole week that I could get to it.
Then a neighbor of mine loaned me two Norwex cloths and said, “Try these on your windows and mirrors and just use water .” “Wow,” I said, after using the enviro and polishing cloths, “Where do you buy these?” She invited me to a Norwex party at her house. I reluctantly gave her back the cloths but then she kindly produced another Norwex product. “Here, try this dusting mitt. You can use it dry or wet-- just use water . The picture in the catalog shows a woman cleaning Venetian blinds.” Really??? I could hardly wait for daybreak.
The sun shone in my four big living room windows and onto the nasty blinds. I had about an hour to try out the dust mitt before I started my daily work. Oh, my. Forget the daily work! I couldn’t stop. I cleaned all four blinds, the windows, the storm windows, the trim around the windows, the furniture and the baseboard in the room before lunch. There was no getting up on the stool, down from the stool, shaking the cloth and looking at a half-assed job. No. The dust was gone and the time it saved me was significant and everything was sparkling clean. Did I say, CLEAN with just water?
I figured my neighbor wanted her dust mitt back so before I did I thought about the dustiest place I could think of in my house: the top of the antique roll top desk. To clean the top it’s necessary to use a step ladder so you know there was dust up there! I peered over the top with the blue mitt on my right hand. I was right about the dust. What would happen if I just took this mitt and did one long swipe from one side to the other? The voice in my mind said, “Try it!” The antibac dust mitt took all the dust under my hand off the top of that desk--about 24 inches--and stuck to the mitt. I slowly turned the mitt over to reveal a pile of dust that was sticking and not falling off. Where has this miracle cloth been all my life?
Needless to say, I went to my neighbor’s party ready to buy. I knew how much time these cloths would save me in cleaning and how motivating it would be to have a product that actually worked.
And one of the best things about using Norwex cleaning cloths is there ability to clean with just water. Did I say that my B and B is organic? I advertise that we don’t use chemicals to clean and we don’t. I have lots of guests who come with chemical sensitivities. Guests who can’t stay in hotels and other places. So these products are a God send to me and to others.
Between the first time I cleaned with the enviro cloth to becoming a Norwex consultant was less than a month. I’m impressed. I hope you’ll have the same experience.
